Glen Challenge
The late Peter English had a great love of Glenurquhart. Peter’s original thoughts on a Glen Challenge were really directed to a revival of the way in which our forebears from West the Glen would have walked to attend the Games.
The Challenge has developed to still include a 10 mile walk and has now been joined by athletes running the 10 miles and cyclists that compete over a 20 mile route.
All walkers, runners and cyclists start at Corrimony, with walkers and runners being Bused from the games field to the start.
Information
The Route
Run / Walk Route – NB the route was cycled so the speed should not be used as a timing guide
To help walkers and runners get to the start at Corrimony, a minibus will leave Glen Urquhart High School car park at 08:30 for walkers and 10:00 for runners. This is a free bus, but you need to book your seat by completing the section on the entry form.
The route follows quiet tracks, through farms and forests on the south side of Glen Urquhart with beautiful views of the homesteads on the north side which are not visible from the main road. It is steeped in ancient history from the time the Norse warrior Monie was defeated in a battle near Craigmonie and escaped along this very route to Corrimony where his fate was ultimately sealed. His spirit lives on in our midst in the locations in the Glen which bear his name.
As you approach the finish in the Games Field , you will be encouraged and welcomed by the sound of the pipes as you complete one lap of the Games Field and everyone will receive a medal when they cross the finishing line.
The entire route is marshalled with a water stop and check points. Our support team will follow behind the last participant and will provide plenty of encouragement and help to everyone, and if you really can’t make it to the finish our crew will drive you the Games Field where you can enjoy the rest of the day.
